How Often Is an Eye Exam Necessary?
We recommend that you get an eye exam annually, or once a year. Many conditions that affect your eyes don’t have obvious symptoms when they are most treatable. An annual eye exam allows us to catch any problems before they get out of control.
Typically, insurance companies will pay for one exam each year, because it is common knowledge that those who don’t see an eye doctor regularly are at higher risk for eye disease.
How Often Do I Need New Glasses?
We recommend that you get new glasses anytime your prescription has changed. Your optometrist will advise you when new glasses are essential, making it even more important that you visit the eye doctor regularly.
If your prescription remains the same, you may be able to use the same glasses until you are tired of your old ones.
How Are Farsightedness and Nearsightedness Treated?
Farsightedness (hyperopia) and nearsightedness (myopia) can be treated in several different ways. Depending on the severity of your case, your optometrist may prescribe glasses, contact lenses, or even LASIK surgery to repair your eyes.
We encourage the people of Anchorage to visit an optometrist regularly to determine the best ways to treat nearsightedness and farsightedness. Since every case is different, it’s important that your eye doctor from Conley Marcum, OD examine your eyes when you first notice a problem.
